Obituary of Stavroula Poulimenakos
It is with deep sadness that we announce the passing of Stavroula (Voula) Poulimenakos, who left us peacefully on Oct. 18th, 2025 at the age of 88.
Born on May 21, 1937, in Tarapsa, Greece, Voula immigrated to Ottawa at the age of 23 in search of a better life. It was here that she built a home filled with love, hard work, and generosity. Together with the love of her life, Jimmy, she opened and operated the Leitrim Restaurant for over 35 years, creating a welcoming place where countless people gathered and shared meals.
Voula will be forever remembered for her devotion to family, her warm heart, and her unmatched talent in the kitchen. Cooking, baking, and feeding those she loved brought her the greatest joy. Of all her blessings, her greatest pride and happiness came from being a Yiayia. She adored her grandchildren — Mario, Dimitri, Anthony, and Yianni — and cherished every moment spent with them.
She was predeceased by her brothers George & Harry Anagnostakos, Rick Cronis and survived by her brother Peter Anagnostakos (Myrina), and her sister Maria Sarantakos (late George). Her cherished daughters Sophia Poulimenakos and Maria Bassi (John) will truly miss her.
Her memory will live on in the hearts of her family, friends, and all who were touched by her kindness and generosity.
The family would like to extend their heartfelt thanks to Dr. Karlene Smith for her exceptional care, compassion, and support to Voula throughout the years.
Visitation will be Wednesday, 22nd of October, from 9:30am to 12pm at the Dormition of the Virgin Mary Greek Orthodox Church (1315 Prince of Wales Dr, Ottawa). Mass will immediately follow, with burial at Hope Cemetery afterwards.
In lieu of flowers, donations to the Dormition of the Virgin Mary Greek Orthodox Church are greatly appreciated.
