Obituary of Lutfallah Kandalaft
“Blessed are the dead who die in the Lord from now on. ‘Yes,’ says the Spirit, ‘they will rest from their labor, for their deeds will follow them.’” Revelation 14:13
With heavy hearts, yet with strong faith in the Lord of the resurrection and the life, we entrust the soul of our beloved Lutfallah Kandalaft into God’s eternal care. Lutfallah, aged 91, passed peacefully in the early hours of Thursday, September 25, surrounded by his wife and children, after a long and courageous battle with illness.
Beloved husband and best friend for 60 years of Thana Kaba (Homs, Syria). Loving father of the late Nada, Rev. Samer (Rev. Shahrzad), Huda (Saad), and Nada (Michel). Cherished Jiddo (grandfather) to Mark Lutfalla, Paul, Joanna, Grace, Sophia, Maria, Gabriel, Elena, and Christopher.
Lutfallah was predeceased by his parents, Nicola Kandalaft and Nada Salta; his brother, the late Dr. Nadim (late Linda); and his sister, the late Nadima (late Michael), of Syria. He is survived by his loving brothers Mouti (late Yvonne) of Canada and Maurice of the UK. He will be deeply missed by his many nieces, nephews, extended family, and friends across Canada, the United States, Australia, Belgium, the UK, and Syria.
Born in Homs, Syria, into a faithful Presbyterian family where church and faith were central, Lutfallah lived a life of devotion and service. For 27 years, he volunteered as treasurer of the Women’s Society of the National Evangelical Presbyterian Church in Homs, supporting families in need and helping to establish the first home for the elderly in the city. Known for his generous spirit, he was always ready to lend a hand, whether by running the church sound system, repairing electronics, or offering quiet acts of kindness.
Aa a skilled electronic engineer, he worked for the Syrian Oil Company in Homs while also managing his own electronics shop. He carried a lifelong passion for classical music and delighted in sharing his knowledge and love for it with others.
Lutfallah will be remembered for his patience, kindness, generosity, and unwavering love for his family. His honest and sincere heart, his tireless volunteer work, and his open home left a lasting impact on all who knew him.
Visitation will take place on Saturday, October 4, 2025, from 10:00 to 11:00 a.m. at Parkdale United Church, 429 Parkdale Avenue, Ottawa.
Funeral Service will follow at 11:00 a.m. in the sanctuary, with a reception afterward in the church hall.
Interment will take place at 2:30 p.m. at Highland Park Cemetery, 2037 McGee Side Road, Ottawa.
In lieu of flowers, donations in Lutfallah’s memory may be made to Parkdale United Church or to charities close to his heart: the Elderly Presbyterian Home or the Women’s Presbyterian Society in Homs, Syria.
“May the peace of God, which surpasses all understanding, guard your hearts and your minds in Christ Jesus.” Philippians 4:7
