Obituary of David German Villarroel Picardo

The chimes and hymns of the Heavenly Choir consecrated the soul of David German Villarroel Picardo on September 22, 2025. David German walked the path of a faithful believer, sharing his faith with many, and building communities wherever he lived. He will be extremely missed by his wife and life partner for over 50 years, Militza, his son, David Elias (Maja), his daughter, Cristina (Adrian), his nephew, Jorge, his grandkids, Orayo, Marseo, Vina, Adiala, and his close family friends, Dusan, Mirjana, Aleks, Roxanne, Kiaus, and Eliana, his Venezuelan family scattered all over the world, as well as many other friends. 

David German will be remembered by his smile, deep thoughts, craftsman skills, and as a generous provider of his time to help anyone. His deep curiosity and passion for how the world worked incited him to become a professional mechanical engineer, designing and building for his living. The sea inspired him, even from an early age with a family boat building project, which he crewed for many leagues, nurturing his love of sailing, marine life, and salty breezes. On land, David bloomed gardens, tended trees, and looked after the houses of family and friends, improving them with his skillful attention to detail and thoughtful care. He found joy in scavenging yard sales, sometimes turning the junk into treasures.      

David German did not survive a battle with an aggressive cancer that attacked his throat and chest. While in the indomitable care of the doctors, nurses, and orderlies of the Ottawa General Hospital Intensive Care Unit, he rode waves of treatment, scans, and sedation, with humour and grace. David German’s family is humbled and grateful with the sensitive attention and care from all the staff.

Las campanas y los himnos del Coro Celestial llamaron el alma de David Germán Villarroel Picardo el 22 de septiembre de 2025. David Germán recorrió el camino de un creyente fiel, compartiendo su fe con muchos y construyendo comunidades dondequiera que vivía. Lo extrañarán profundamente su esposa y compañera de vida durante más de 50 años, Militza, su hijo, David Elías (Maja), su hija, Cristina (Adrian), su sobrino, Jorge, sus nietos, Orayo, Marseo, Vina, Adiala, y sus amigos íntimos de la familia, Dusan, Mirjana, Aleks, Roxanne, Kiaus y Eliana, su familia venezolana dispersa por todo el mundo, así como muchos otros amigos.

David German será recordado por su sonrisa, sus profundas reflexiones, sus habilidades artesanales y por ser una persona generosa que siempre estaba dispuesta a ayudar a los demás. Su profunda curiosidad y pasión por el funcionamiento del mundo le llevaron a convertirse en ingeniero mecánico profesional, dedicándose al diseño y la construcción. El mar le inspiró desde muy temprana edad, cuando participó en un proyecto familiar de construcción de barcos, en el que navegó durante muchas leguas, alimentando su amor por la navegación, la vida marina y la brisa salada. En tierra, David cultivaba jardines, cuidaba árboles y se ocupaba de las casas de familiares y amigos, mejorándolas con su hábil atención al detalle y su esmerado cuidado. Encontraba alegría en rebuscar en las ventas de garaje, a veces convirtiendo la basura en tesoros.

David German no sobrevivió a la batalla contra un cáncer agresivo que le atacó la garganta y el pecho. Mientras recibía los cuidados incansables de los médicos, enfermeras y auxiliares de la Unidad de Cuidados Intensivos del Hospital General de Ottawa, se sometió a oleadas de tratamientos, exploraciones y sedaciones con humor y dignidad. La familia de David German se siente honrada y agradecida por la sensible atención y los cuidados de todo el personal.
