Obituary of Helen Ballinger
Sadly, we announce the passing of Helen Ballinger (nee Harper) on July 31, 2025. Helen was born in Renfrew Scotland to Mary and Jack Harper on July 14, 1923, and was sister to Walter, Robert and Ian. Helen is predeceased by her husband John and daughter-in-law Suzanne (David). She will be missed by her three sons David, Peter (Debora) and Geoffrey (Patricia) and by her grandchildren Lindsay (Warren), Robin (Shane), William (Lacey), Emily (Brandon) and John (Chelsea) as well as by her 12 great grandchildren.
Helen came to Canada as a war bride after serving her country in the second world war. She volunteered for many organizations in Ottawa over the years that were close to her heart and compassionately served the people of her community. Helen was a proud mom and grandmother, kind, caring, supportive, an animal lover, a world traveler, cottage lover, delightfully opinionated and a proud Scottish lass.
The family would like to express their deep gratitude to the staff of the Barrhaven Manor for their generous care and support of Helen over the years. A private family funeral and internment will be held at the Pinecrest chapel. In lieu of flowers the family asks that a donation be made to the Ottawa Humane Society in Helen’s name.
