John Alexander Fraser

July 17, 1932 – June 23, 2025

Born in Sandy Hill to Earl and Gwen (née Greenfield), died peacefully at age 92. Predeceased in 2024 by his beloved wife of 64 years, Florence (née McKinnon). Loving father of Anne (John), Marie (Steve), Janet (Paul), Kathleen (George), and James (Lisa). Proud grandfather of Matthew, Liam, Adrien, and Alexander (“Xan”). Dear brother of Sheila, predeceased by siblings Elizabeth Jane and Robert.

A graduate of St. Pat’s College and the Ontario College of Education (OCE), Dad began teaching French at Fisher Park HS. After upgrading via McMaster night classes, he became the first head of PhysEd at the new Brookfield HS. He taught and coached there for over 25 years. Spring would see Dad scouring end-of-season ski sales in search of equipment for Brookfield. In retirement, Dad often encountered former students on the Gatineau trails and took such pleasure seeing them share his passion.

Dad’s faith was his foundation; his wife Florence was his heart; and their family, their purpose. Family adventures were undertaken with everyone in tow, whether canoeing on Pemichangan, skating Fortune Lake, or travelling across Canada with the pop-up trailer. On cross-country ski outings, Dad would drop his pack at trailside and loop back to ensure all were okay. He was in his element in nature, most recently walking the Byron Linear Park or listening to birds in Maplelawn Garden. We are grateful to him for instilling in us a love of nature and outdoor pursuits.

Dad would have affirmed our praise for his caregivers, including Carlton, Cecilia, Manita, Marguerite, Marina, Sultan, the Civic Emergent Care and B5 teams.

Friends and family are invited to a funeral Mass at Our Lady of Fatima Church (Woodroffe Avenue) August 19, 2025 at 11:00 am. Refreshment and fellowship will follow in the hall.
