Obituary of Nicki Giakoumelos

August 22, 1942 – June 24, 2025

It is with heavy hearts that we announce the peaceful passing of Nicki Giakoumelos (nee Kargakos) on June 24, 2025, at the age of 83.

Beloved wife of Dennis Giakoumelos, Nicki was a devoted mother to Phil (Erin) and a cherished grandmother to Phillip Jr.

Sister of Apostoli, Tasia, Jean, Nick, Georgia and the late John, Perry and George. Daughter of the late Dimitrios and Panagiota. Nicki will be fondly remembered by extended family, friends, and all who had the pleasure of knowing her.

Born in Sparta Greece, Nicki immigrated to Canada in 1959 at the age of 17 to join her family in Ottawa, where she later met Dennis. They married in 1965 and shared 60 loving years together.

Visitation will take place at the Dormition of the Virgin Mary Greek Orthodox Church, 1315 Prince of Wales Drive, Ottawa, on Friday, June 27, 2025, from 10:00 a.m. to 11:00 a.m., followed by a funeral service at 11:00 a.m. Interment will take place at Pinecrest Cemetery, 2500 Baseline Road, Ottawa.

The family would like to express their heartfelt thanks to the ICU Team at the Queensway Carleton Hospital and the compassionate team at Extendacare Medix for their exceptional care during her final days.

In lieu of flowers, donations in Nicki’s memory may be made to the Hellenic Community of Ottawa (Greek Orthodox Church) would be appreciated.
