I'm saddened to hear of Don's passing, my condolences go out to his family and friends. I first met Don when I was a student at Dawson college in a JCL course. He was meticulous, firm, and pleasant to learn from. Later he became a colleague when I joined the Computer Science faculty at Dawson. He gave me a lot of good advice on transitioning from the work force to teaching in a classroom.
My deepest sympathies,
Myles Burgess

Sincere condolences to you, Lyn, and to Graham. It has been a true blessing to have gotten to know Don over a number of decades. He really did have a brilliant encyclopedic mind, and we always learned so much. I will remember and treasure his love of nature and the beautiful photos that he enjoyed taking of wildlife. He was always engaging and fun to be with, and It was good to hear his laughter, and to enjoy his good sense of humour. I feel rich with the best of memories of dear Don.

Dear Lyn and Graham,
I had the privilege of knowing Don for a number of years while we were members of Randonne Aventure. We took buses to travel to and from the areas where we would hike, bike or Ski and there were always spirited conversations among the members and when they found a situation they could not answer they always asked Don who had a quick and intelligent answer. His vast intelligence on so many levels made me wonder why he dated me and when I questioned him on the matter, again he had a quick answer "What you lack in formal education, you make up for in common sense".
I still repeat that today.
Don was an incredible teacher at Dawson College, where he created the Computer Department in their initial days. His greatest accomplishment was teaching Vietnamese students, who he laughed to himself about being a draft dodger from ElPaso and might have been someone sent to Vietman to shoot these students and their family.
Don was most happy outdoors, challenging himself weather skiing, biking or hiking. He was not a homebody at that stage of his life. He did one of the greatest challenges I had know, by hiking the Vermont Green Mountain trail from Canada to the very end of Vermont. The following year hiking it in the reverse direction.
These are the very soul of Don and he will be remembered by such feats, in my mind.
RIP Don you are missed by all of us.

I'm saddened to hear of Don's passing. I had joined Randonnee Aventure back in 1987 and he was one of the first members that I met. I remember him from hiking and skiing bus outings as well as the long weekends. We would both attend the monthly hiking meetings at members' homes and he would bring Graham as a baby and feed him while providing valuable input. His knowledge of wildlife, nature, and outdoor sports was phenomenal and he was interesting to chat with and listen to. I actually saw him and Lyn meet. It was on the bus on the way to New Hampshire for a long weekend and I was sitting with Lyn and he came over to chat with us. The rest was history for them. I had not seen him in many years but always enjoyed his Facebook posts with pictures of birds and other wildlife. Those years in RA were a blast with Don! RIP my friend!

We shared many Canadian Thanksgivings with Don, Lyn, Graham and Lyn's Mom. We still chuckle about the time that our mini van got locked in at Wallis Sands Beach and I drove over the grass and managed to squeeze it through a narrow space in the guard rail fence. Don's chortle of incredulity made the successful attempt even more worthwhile. He had such a great laugh and always loved a challenge.
