Obituary of Sotirios Sotiropoulos
Sam, also affectionately known as Sammy, left this world on March 20, 2025, to join his adoring wife Soula, his mother Kalliopi and father Elias, loving sisters Maro, Athanasia, Nikoletta, Vasso, brothers Laki, Peter and George, nephew and godson George Frentzos, and cherished koumbari and friends in heaven.
At the age of 85, he considered himself very fortunate to have lived a very full life with his wife Soula of 45 years, and his devoted children Elias, Popey, and son-in-law Scott. There was always endless love and laughter with siblings and their loved spouses, cousins, special nieces and nephews, koumbari and godchildren, neighbours and great friends in the ByWard Market, Stonebridge, Ottawa, Toronto, Montreal, Indianapolis, Athens, Megalopoli, Horemi, and Neapoli. As a hard working restaurateur, he provided his family with every opportunity for a happy future. His joyful memories of his restaurant days were with him until the very end.
Sam's children would like to extend a heartfelt thank you to the many doctors, nurses and PSWs at The Ottawa Hospital - Civic Campus, especially to the Transitional Care Unit and Palliative Care team who cared for Sam in his final days. They would also like to express their eternal gratitude to the caring team at Bayshore HealthCare who enthusiastically supported Dad for many years.
The family would also like to express their gratitude to Father Alex, whose friendship and spiritual guidance gave Sam peace when he needed it the most.
Visitation will be held on Saturday March 29, 11:00 a.m., at the Dormition of the Virgin Mary Greek Orthodox Church (1315 Prince of Wales Dr.), followed by the Funeral Service at noon, and burial at Pinecrest Cemetery at 1:30. For friends and family who would like to toast to Sam's memory, a Celebration of Life will be held from 2 to 4 p.m. at Cole Funeral Services (2500 Baseline Road).
In lieu of flowers, donations to the Hellenic Community of Ottawa or The Ottawa Hospital Foundation "In memory of Sam Sotiropoulos" would be greatly appreciated.
Singing until the very end.
Memory Eternal. Until we meet again.
