Obituary of Alan Courtney Barry
Born December 12, 1935 in Kingston, Jamaica. Alan was one of 7 children of Herbert Frank Barry (Administrator General of Jamaica 1948-55) and his wife Olga Eva Bouroughs Litherland Barry. Siblings: Amy, John, Frank (died from lockjaw at age 19), William (died as an infant), Eva Kathleen (still alive), Alan, Robert (died as an infant).
At age 15 Alan ran away from boarding school in England, got on a boat and sailed around the world. Alan came back to Jamaica but because of the turbulence there was sent to Canada. He panned for Yukon gold and traveled Northern Canada in areas never discovered before. He loved the outdoors and explored by canoe, hiking and camping. He was engaged to Joyce who tragically drowned and Alan never did marry. He worked most of his career in a Canadian Government animal science laboratory in Ottawa. He was very religious and loved the Lord.
-----------
Alan arrived in the best neighbourhood in the community of Kanata in the 1990s, a man already in his 70s, who had just purchased his first house.
During all of the years until his passing, he became more than just a neighbour. He became a friend to many in the area. He will be missed by all who knew him, especially his Ballantrae Way friends.
John 6:40 - ...and I will raise him up on the last day.
