Marie was born in Saskatoon in 1930, moved to Timmins in 1936 and then Niagara Falls in 1941. Marie graduated from high school at age 16 and was offered a scholarship to further her education at a local college, but instead accepted a position in the accounting department at Provincial Engineering. Marie married Ken in 1950 and moved to Toronto to become a member of the Salvation Army West Toronto Corps and later Dovercourt Citadel, where she sang in the songsters. She also worked at G.E. and later Beaver Engineering until 1956 when her first son (Brian) was born followed by Jim (1958) and Sharon (1960).
In 1961, the family moved to Ottawa and attended the Parkdale Corps where she worked as the corps secretary until 1968, at which time Ken was transferred to Kingston. While in Kingston, Marie worked at Queen’s University as the Registrar’s Secretary and formed the League of Mercy at the Kingston Citadel Corps.
In 1975, Ken was appointed the Director of Music of the RCMP Band in Ottawa. Marie worked at Wiltron Instruments until 1986. While attending Woodroffe Temple she took over the League of Mercy and later in 2002 started the Retired Woodroffe Temple married couples Breakfast Club.
After retiring in 1986, they made numerous trips to Europe and with their camper trailer travelled throughout Canada and the United States. Marie and Ken moved into the Empress Retirement Home in Kanata in July 2018.
At Marie’s request there will be no visitation or service.
