Obituary of John August Prince

John August Prince passed away suddenly at his Ottawa home on February 5, 2025, in his 65th year. Longtime and much loved partner of Sonia Dilawri and cherished father of Jared Prince (Pablo), John was the third youngest and sole brother to ten sisters: Janet Brown (Doug); Judy Kuiack (Donald); Jacqueline Schroeder (Eddie); Brenda Johnston (Gary); Wilma Prince (Tony); Edna Prince; Linda Levac (Gerry); Lena Prince; Aggie Prince (Jeff); and Jane Prince (deceased). Predeceased by his parents Alean (nee Summers) and John F. Prince, he is survived by his many nieces and nephews: Chris & Chad Brown, Keegan Kuiack, Andy & Jason Johnston, Sayde & Lucas Cutler, Derrick & Danny Levac, Clayton, Jenny & Lindsay Giroux and Kyrsten Boucher.

Born and raised in Eganville, ON, John moved to Ottawa, and began his career at Van Leeuwen Boomkamp, then the city’s premiere furniture retailer. After 19 years at IKEA (lastly as Human Resource Manager) and 16 years at Pier 1 (lastly as Store Manager), John took on the position of Store Director at Home Société in 2021, where he will be greatly missed.

In his professional life, John was a strong and natural leader of people. He had an innate ability to harness the strengths of the individuals on his team and championed inclusivity.

John was immensely generous and nurturing, loving and compassionate. His love was a guiding light for many and his smile would light up a room!

John’s family and friends will treasure their memories of a person who was caring, quick-witted and utterly genuine. He was a beautiful soul who lived life to the fullest.
