Obituary of Major (Ret'd) Joseph Guy Vermette
It is with heavy hearts that his family announces the passing of Joe Vermette, who left us peacefully at the age of 88. Joe was the beloved husband of Fay, his devoted wife of 64 years, and the cherished father of Joe (Isabel), Dave (Rose), Jeannine (Dave), and Lisa (Brian). He was the proud grandfather of Craig, Brady, Ryan, Bennett, Adam, and Dylan, and the doting great-grandfather of Samuel.
Joe served his country with distinction for 37 years in the Canadian Air Force, where he excelled as a navigator on the Argus. His career allowed for postings in Winnipeg MB, Greenwood NS, San Jose CA, Ottawa ON and finally, Lahr Germany which was his swan song before heading back to Ottawa to retire.
Joe will be deeply missed by all who had the privilege of knowing him. His legacy of love, service, and dedication to his family and country will live on in our hearts forever.
The family would like to extend their heartfelt thanks to the doctors, nurses, and caregivers at the Ottawa Hospital, General Campus, for their kind and compassionate care.
Family and friends are invited to a Memorial Gathering on Friday, September 20th, from 1:30 to 4:00 PM at Highland Park (2037 McGee Side Rd., Carp). In lieu of flowers, donations to the Dementia Society of Ottawa and Renfrew County are greatly appreciated.
