Obituary of Melville Malette

Mel Malette, retired from Energy, Mines and Resources Canada, passed away peacefully, just one week shy of his 90th birthday. Beloved husband of the late Doreen (née McNulty) for 62 years. Loving father of Carol (Mike), Steven (Gail), Danny (Madeline), and Diane. Predeceased by his son Vincent (Joana). Cherished and proud Papa Boots of 10 grandchildren and 6 great-grandchildren. He is also survived by his sister, Annette Essiambre.

Mel will be remembered for his dedication to his deep commitment to his community. He served for decades with the Sandy Hill Ottawa East Sports Association, including as Past President, and was a District Chair with the Ottawa District Minor Hockey Association (ODMHA). His passion for sport and mentorship left a lasting impact on generations of young athletes and families.

A memorial service will be held at the Pinecrest Remembrance Chapel (2500 Baseline Rd., Nepean) on Thursday, May 7th, 2026 at 2:00PM. A reception will follow for family and friends who wish to join in celebrating his life. Burial to take place on Friday May 15, 2026, at 3:00pm at St. James Roman Catholic Cemetery, Portage du Fort, Quebec. In lieu of flowers, the family kindly asks that donations be made to the Canadian Cancer Society in his memory.
