Obituary of Vera Jean Woods

Vera Jean Woods passed away peacefully on 7 March 2026 at Saint Patrick’s Long-Term Care Home.

 

Vera is predeceased in death by her parents George and Dorthey Dolman and her sisters Frances, May, June and Dorothey. As well as their husbands. She was also predeceased in death by her niece Judy Armstrong (Keith) and nephew Richard Hall.

 

She attended Commerce High School and Secretarial College in Ottawa. Upon graduating took a job with then, Indian and Northern Affairs Canada where she spent her entire 38-year career. Vera worked her way up to Acting Chief Indian Band Elections, for which position she received a letter of commendation siting “recognition of your management team for your efforts, determination and expertise in dealing with this matter”

 

Upon Vera’s retirement from the Federal Government she was recognized by the late Brian Mulroney, Prime Minister of Canada. “Vera Jean Woods – On the occasion of your retirement from the Public Service, I wish to thank you on behalf of the Government and people of Canada for 38 years of loyal service and to extent to you our best wishes”.

 

Vera enjoyed many outdoor activities, especially kayaking on White Lake near her trailer, with her friends Lynda Dawson and Patricia Day. Her trailer was her home away from home during the summer months. Vera also enjoyed sewing, music and watching sports, in particular, ice-skating competitions and the Ice Capades.

 

Vera is survived by her niece Sandra Thwaites and nephew Robert Thwaites and numerous other great nephews.

 

The family wishes to thank Lynda Dawson and St Pat’s home for their care of Vera over the past several years.

 

A Memorial Service and Burial will be held on May 26th, at Pinecrest Remembrance Services, 2500 Baseline Rd starting at 11 a.m. This will be followed by a Luncheon at 12:00 p.m.
