Ray was an avid golfer, and took up the hobby of clockwork construction/repair after retirement. He was an avid downhill and cross country skier, and taught cross country skiing a number of years at Camp Fortune. He also entered many world loppet races throughout Europe. At home, he frequently enjoyed cycling in the Gatineau Hills. From the age of 18, he was heavily involved in car rallying, and until his death maintained the many friendships he made during those early days, meeting these friends for weekly breakfasts. Being stationed in Germany for four years, he spoke fluent German and had a great fondness for traveling in Europe, a passion he shared with his wife Shari.
