Obituary of Klara Thompson
Klára Julianna Thompson (née Lovagi) passed away peacefully on January 11, 2026, at the Ruddy Shenkman Hospice Facility, at the age of 88. She was a longtime resident of Stittsville and a woman whose strength, determination, and feisty spirit defined her life.
Klara was predeceased by her beloved husband, Brian Thompson, and her son, Andy Thompson, whom she was eager to reunite with. She was also predeceased by her parents, János and Julianna Lovagi.
She is lovingly remembered by her son David (Tracey), daughters Julie and Pat (Bob), and her many grandchildren: Anthony (Fernanda), Ashley (Mike), Amanda, Joshua (Johanna), Michael (Jamie), Melissa (David), Melissa (Kevin), and Stephanie (Mike). She also leaves behind her cherished great-grandchildren: Isabella, Lukas, Paige, Elizabeth, William , Elaina, and Ronan.
Born in Kőszeg, Hungary, Klara’s life story was one of resilience and courage. She escaped Hungary during the 1956 revolution, married Brian in England in 1960, and together they emigrated to Canada in 1967 to build a new life for their growing family.
Klara was famously feisty, a quality that served her well. She beat lung cancer and went on to defy the odds by living far longer with Multiple Myeloma than anyone expected. She liked to prove doctors wrong and generally did things her own way.
An exceptional cook and baker, Klara showed her love through food, feeding generations with recipes that were rarely written down and portions that were never small. If you left her house hungry, it was entirely your own fault.
Klara will be laid to rest at a private family gathering. A Celebration of Life will be held from 1:00-3:00p.m. on Sunday, May 17, at ALE – Amberwood Lounge & Eatery, where family and friends will gather to share stories, laughter, and memories, just the way she would have wanted.
In lieu of flowers, friends and family are invited to consider making a donation to the Ruddy Shenkman Hospice Facility in Klara’s memory. https://give-can.keela.co/HCO-in-memory-in-honour
The family extends their heartfelt thanks to the staff at The Ottawa Hospital – General Campus and the Ruddy Shenkman Hospice Facility for their compassion, dignity, and exceptional care of Klara.
She will be deeply missed and fondly remembered for her strength, her cooking, and her unstoppable spirit.
