Obituary of Van That Do
It is with deep sadness that we announce the passing of Van That Do, who passed away peacefully on January 9, 2026, surrounded by his immediate family. He is lovingly remembered by his wife, Thuy; his children, Tam (Trang), Thu, and Minh (Doreen); and his cherished grandchildren, Alexandre, Jacqueline, Nicholas, Vincent, Phillip, Yuliah, and Ayden. He will also be remembered with great affection by his extended family and many friends whose lives were touched by his kindness.
Born in Vietnam, Van served as a chief economist before making the courageous decision to leave his homeland for political reasons, determined to provide a better future for his wife and children. Sponsored by Immaculate Heart of Mary Church, he immigrated to Ottawa with his family in 1979, where he worked tirelessly until his retirement. A devoted husband and father, Van treasured time spent with his family. He enjoyed fishing, camping, and many road trips while his children were growing up. In later years, he found great joy as an avid gardener.
Van’s life was marked by sacrifice, resilience, and love. His legacy lives on through his family and the future he worked so hard to build.
A Funeral Service will take place on Saturday, January 17, 2026, at 11:45 a.m. at our Lady of LaVang Parish, 280 Wesley Ave, Ottawa.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in his memory to Ottawa Grace Manor.
