John Christensen

Obituary of John Christensen

With deep sadness we announce that John Aage Christensen, age 81, of Almonte Ontario, passed away December 30, 2025 at the Civic Hospital with family at his side. John was born in Brøns, Denmark to Svend and Ragnhild Christensen, and was the oldest of 8 children. He and his family emigrated to Blenheim, Ontario in 1958, where John had to adjust to both the English language and the Canadian climate. John attended St Clair College in Windsor, graduating with a diploma in Electronics, and he went on to a 30+ year career at Mitel.

John is predeceased by his wife and the love of his life, Christine Christensen (née Brettell), who he cared for lovingly when she was battling terminal cancer in 2014. John will be forever missed by his 3 children: Jamie Christensen (Lesley), Kevin Christensen (Brenda), and Heather Button (Shawn). John was a loving grandfather, known as “Grandpa” to Siara, Kirah, and Kaeden, “Farfar” to Rachel and Lauren, and “Papa” to Liam and Karenna. John is lovingly remembered by his brothers Finn, Thomas (Rosemary), Steen, and Mike. He is predeceased by siblings Asger and Annemette. He was a loving brother-in-law to Robyn Pettit (Doug), and had many nieces, nephews, and cousins, and enjoyed an active social life with many lifelong friends.

John’s gentle nature endeared him to everyone he met. Although generally a quiet man, John excelled at making friends. He could often be found at the Almonte Legion or Equator coffee house, where he met weekly with a group of fellow HAM radio enthusiasts. He could also be found curling at the Almonte Curling club, going on motorcycle rides with his “gang”, hanging out with his friends on Goodwin Lane, or partying with his vacation friends at the Blue Bay in Mexico.  John was also an avid photographer, the treasurer of his local HAM radio group, Volkswagen loyalist, and dessert enthusiast.
