Rev. Weldon Burlock

Obituary of Rev. Weldon Frank Burlock

Weldon Frank Burlock, age 91, passed away peacefully at home on Thursday, December 4, 2025. He was born March 25, 1934 in Corn Hill, New Brunswick to Raymond and Vera Burlock.

Beloved husband to Marjorie (Harvey) for 43 years, dear father to Shulamit Stephanie Ber Levtov of Jasper, Ontario (Ian) and Andrew (Carrie) of Harrowsmith, Ontario, and proud grandpa to his granddaughter, Persia, of Ottawa. He was sadly predeceased by his sister Lois Partridge (Boyce) and his son Martin.

He will be fondly remembered by his niece, Shannon Partridge and her children, Clothilde and Maxwell, by his nephew Lorne Partridge and his daughter Madison, and by his nephew Scott Partridge (Laura) and their children, Joshua and Jordan. His memory will be warmly held in the hearts of his many friends and associates.

As a young man, Weldon served as an army cadet. He enjoyed singing in a male quartet at university. Later in his life he made many friends as a HAM radio operator. After moving to Ottawa he became an avid amateur photographer. Many of his photographs decorate the walls of his home and delight visitors. He had a great sense of humour and made more and more jokes as he got older. (You can see the joker in him in this photo.)

He received his BA at Acadia University in 1959, his M. Div. at Acadia Divinity College in 1962, and his Master of Sacred Theology at Andover-Newton Theological School in Boston in 1963. In his early career as a Baptist minister, he served communities in New Brunswick and Nova Scotia. He then embarked on a career as an institutional chaplain, first at The Provincial Hospital in Saint John, then at Kingston Psychiatric Hospital and finally at Queensway-Carleton hospital where he served as Director of Pastoral Care and from which he retired in 1995. At the same time, he was a Lecturer at Saint Paul University. He was committed to the growth of pastoral care in institutions and was deeply involved in clinical pastoral education and training both locally and nationally.

In lieu of flowers, donations to the Dementia Society of Ottawa and Renfrew County or to charities of your choice in Weldon’s memory would be welcome.
