Ruby Elver (Nee Little)

Obituary of Ruby Marie Elver (Nee Little)

June 15, 1935 - December 2, 2025

It is with sadness that we announce the passing of Ruby Elver at the age of 90.

Ruby was a devoted and loving wife of the late Robert B Elver and beloved mother of Bruce (pre-deceased), Nancy, Norah, Judy & Janet.  She was a caring grandmother to Andrew, James, Lisa, Monica, Nathalie, & Eric and a happy new great grandmother to Sophie.  Ruby came from a large, loving family and was especially close to her younger sister Helen.  She was pre-deceased by her other siblings Jean, George, Leslie, Art, Marjorie, and Eric.  She was dear Aunt Ruby to many nieces and nephews.

Ruby had a profound faith in God and showed her virtues of forgiveness and kindness throughout her life.  She always focused on the good and devoted most of her life to helping others.

Ruby was born in Orangeville and grew up on the family farm near Shelburne, Ontario.  After high school, she obtained her Bachelor of Arts from Trinity College at the University of Toronto.  While working as a waitress at Cleveland’s House in the Muskoka region, she met her beloved Bob.

Ruby and Bob married in 1956 and later moved to Ottawa.  Their son was born in Pennsylvania while Bob was continuing his post graduate studies.  They returned to Ottawa where they had their four daughters.  Ruby was a busy mother but found time for her church and countless volunteer activities.  She was elected School Board Trustee from 1988 to 1991.  For her contribution to the City of Nepean, she was awarded Nepean Citizen of the Year in 1985.  More recently, in 2023 she was recognized by the Anglican Church of Canada (Ottawa Diocese) and the Christian Council of the Capital Area (Campus Ministries at Algonquin College) for her contribution to Christian ministry in Ottawa and to her church.  As a breast cancer survivor, she learned to Dragon Boat race and loved it!!

Ruby was generous to others.  Everyone was welcome in her home and many of our family and friends have great memories of mom and the Bobs Lake cottage.

A special thank you to the wonderful, caring staff and many of the residents at Carp Commons Retirement Village where Ruby spent her last 18 months and was truly grateful to call “home”.   The family also wishes to thank friends and family for their support and love of our mom over the years.
