After living 100 wonderful years, Dorothy Sutherland Knowles passed away peacefully in her sleep on March 24,2026. Born in Toronto on November 30, 1925, she went on to graduate with a degree in Home Economics at the University of Toronto. She later graduated from the Teachers College in Ottawa and then spent most of her teaching career at Emily Carr Middle School.
Dorothy had many passions in life. Among these were golf, curling, swimming, reading on the cottage deck, card games, sewing and, later in life she enjoyed watching Jeopardy and playing bingo. Mom always loved to watch life go by while sitting on the cottage dock. Predeceased by her parents Lyman and Ethel Jackes, her sister Marnie Hayes, her brother Bruce, her husband Alan, and her son Rolf. Her three daughters, Gwen, Karen (Mark), Heather (Mike), her 11 grandchildren, her 8 great-grandchildren, and her 3 step great-grandchildren will forever cherish the memories of Dorothy.
Special thanks to the third floor staff at Timberwalk Retirement Community for allowing our mother to rest peacefully and comfortably in her final days.
Private family interment will take place at a later date. A celebration of life will be held later this spring.
